Lucas Reilly is a freelance journalist who specializes in cinematic, longform storytelling. He has more than a decade of experience writing and reporting for print magazines and podcasts.
Lucas was the writer of iHeartRadio’s award-winning podcast, “Forgotten: The Women of Juarez,” which was translated into three languages and widely regarded as one of the best shows of the year. He co-directed and wrote the iHeart Original, “Big Brother: North Korea’s Forgotten Prince” and wrote scripts for Top 10 podcasts like “The Good Thief” and “Very Special Episodes.” He was the writer of “The Frost Tapes,” which had millions of listeners over the BBC airwaves. He’s currently a Staff Writer for the Murrow-winning cyber and intelligence podcast, “Click Here.”
Lucas started his professional career as a print magazine editor at mental_floss magazine, where he edited the Front-of-Book and features. (The editorial team was nominated for an A.S.M.E. award in “General Excellence” for their work.) His longform digital reporting has been recognized by the editors of Longform and Longreads, with his reporting on the 2017 solar eclipse listed among the “Best science writing of the year.”
As a reporter, Lucas is a generalist. He’s interviewed Britain’s last feudal lord, hunted for lost treasure in rural Virginia, and embedded with eclipse chasers in the badlands of Nebraska. He’s written dispatches from a 600-mile-long yard sale, chatted with CIA analysts and North Korean insiders, and even profiled a man who tried to transform into a goat.
In addition to journalism, Lucas is also a professional pianist. In a past life, he worked as a cocktail pianist aboard a German cruise ship. Today, he’s firmly back on land, living with his wife and dog in Baltimore, Maryland.
